Greetings once again, my fellow Dwarves. I must apologize again for my absences from the game; the school year has not yet ended for me, but luckily my AP test is through and I will have a little bit more time to spend in game. As the council member in charge of foreign relations and recruitment, it has come to my attention that the past few weeks have not seen an increase in our numbers. In fact, I have heard that some members that have recently joined us have left our ranks. It's my opinion that we need a plan. Now, I make no claim to be an MMOG God, but here is my plan to get the word out about the DOTGC. Some of you may already be doing these things; you know who you are, and I applaud you for your initiative and selflessness.
1. LotRO forums, DOTGC thread: Nain and Brodomir were kind enough to create a thread (threads, I should say) over there for us on the Silverlode forum. I know that I do not check this often, and I am not sure how often any of us check it. A successful kinship will try to keep this thread active, so that players looking for kinships via the forums will notice them and read a bit about them. Active threads on the first or second page not noly grab more attention, they look better, more responsive. I would love it if we could all post there a bit more often; don't be shy! introduce yourself, post a bit about the guild, what you like about it, what we do for fun, etc. etc. It's the kinship that makes a player want to stay, not what promises are made before they enter. That's just the 'at a glance' summary.

2. In-Game: The way I see it, the best way to recruit for an only Dwarven kinship (at least until we decide on whether or not we will be adding a small group of Hobbits/Men...) is to start in Ered Luin. Of course, other higher-level regions are also great places to advertise, but not as good as the starting Dwarven area. Why? A)Players new to the game, or just rolling a new character like the assistance of a kinship (other players) in completing early quests and guiding them through the beginning stages of the game B)It's a primarily Dwarven area, so many people will not feel excluded due to the race requirement.
I'm sure we can all think of other reasons than this, as well. I grouped with another dwarf the other day, and later that night he joined our ranks. Taking the extra step to assist other players can really have a positive impact on their opinion of you as well as your kinship. Setting up a macro or simply posting an advertisement over the OOC channel will help as well. You don't need to say much (just to give everyone some background); The DotGC is a kinship that has been around since 2004. It's small, but slowly growing as we get further into the game. We plan on organizing fun events like music nights, and have had races and contests in the past. etc., etc.
The events part is true, although I know there hasn't been any thus far in LotRO; races and other contests (lotteries, etc.) have been organized in the past (WoW), and a music night is in the works.
Obviously at this point, due to our lack of a significant number of members, we cannot say a great deal about support system and helpful players. We need more Dwarves before we have the right to say that, and once we have a more active member base, we can. I'd prefer we not lie about that sort of thing, only to dissapoint people looking for a large group of players that are ready to stop and help no matter what. We're all still leveling and trying our best to provide for one another as it is. This will all come with time.
Now, for the suggestion...I am planning on spending one night a week (undecided hours) helping lower-level players (hopefully Dwarves mostly, but open to all), advertising us on the OOC channel in Ered Luin. A Help Night, if you will. However, I'd like it if one or two more people wouldn't mind switching off every week, so that one person need not spend all of their friday/saturday/sunday nights in low-level areas. Ultimately, if we could get even more people helping with this (2 or more people per night) that'd be even better, although that is a goal we can shoot for at a later time. The more the merrier.
4. Events: Coming back to this, I've always thought that making events for purposes of kinship bonding, but also recruitment, was a good idea. Imagine; a grand tournament, regular music nights, or a scavenger hunt. Open fellowship-raid groups. I'm sure we've all got good ideas for this, at least. These events will invite new players into our group, and show them how strong our ties are as a kinship. Hopefully they will encourage them to join.
5. Website: Finally, the DotGC will be moving to a new website eventually; there will be more to come on this. It's all hopefully going to get moving later in the summer of this year, although it's really not a point to press upon.
Well, after you've all stopped bashing your heads agains your desk, please feel free to post suggestions or improvements as you see fit. Once again, I am not the most MMOG savvy person out there, just posting my ideas where I think they are needed.
May your beards never wither and your weapons stay keen! Bromrin

haha, yes! I remember the great fun we had with the nude/drunk initiation races in the middle of ironforge, and when we actioned off that Ram for the poorer members. Those were good times, and I'd love to see them happen in LOTRO.
Everything you touched on is wonderful, I'll start working harder on the new website/forums, and make sure to leave some posts on the recruitment thread.

Thanks Nain! I am very glad you approve of the suggestions I'm looking forward to the events the most as well! And thank you for working on the new sites. Let me know if I can help out, though I'm know nothing about coding, heh.

Ye have some fine ideas me Brethren, and Wyrm be full fledged supportin' the lot 'o them!
We be tryin' hard to recruit like-minded dwarves to the Kinship as we meet them, and sendin' invites when we see them Kin-less.
Aye grab 'em young we says, a'fore their brains be addled by Kins that know not the strength we be on the road to providin'. I be seein' ye in game tonight for sure, expect a Seneschal Position be bestowed upon ye when I arrive, since ye be one of the Old Fathers of this here Clan!
Nain! Thank-ye fer the hard work and support ye be providin' in the background. Many not know the support ye be providin' with the web-site 'till they take true measure of its' worth. I be lettin' em know right quickly.
Thank ye both once again. See ye at the Kinship Meeting this Saturday, Will be a day to remember seeing our Kin standing proudly shoulder to shoulder with a frosty mug of ale to hoist to common blood!

Thanks Wyrmcleaver, I am glad that you too are excited about what these plans might mean for our kinship! I am hoping to get on tonight, but if not I will certainly be on tomorrow night. I was on earlier, tearing through some of my older chapter quests. See you in game, brother!
